On the Menu: KickAss

  1. I was not the least bit interested in seeing this movie, but after reading some really good reviews, I decided to give it a go, and loved it. It's extremely funny, extremely violent and very stylized, really easy to look at with it's comic book style graphics and bold colours.

I really like Nicholas Cage, but I think that he kind of doesn't fit into the Hollywood leading man stereotype. He is just a little bit too quirky, and so this movie was perfect for him. He delivered his Big Daddy lines like the Adam West Batman, with the pauses in all the right places. He was by far my favorite character in the film. I also liked Hit Girl with her heart shaped face, her little girl pigtails and her foul mouth.

It's great to see a movie that doesn't take itself seriously, doesn't give a damn about what the moralists have to say (she says the C word. Big deal!), and isn't afraid to use a bazooka for a punchline!

I think the soundtrack would be pretty good too.

    Rating: 8/10

  2. that's not showing here for ages... but am looking forward to it as the cagester is always worth seeing... do you remember him in that film with jared leto where he plays a druglord? he is really wonderful and yes, the hairpiece does not a leading man make in hollywood.

  6. @ Marisa, try and see it in ENGLISH so you get NIcholas Cage's Superhero voice.

@ Fly - what are your number 1 and 2 superhero movies? Dark Knight would have to be one?

Just off the top of my head, I liked Dark Knight, Iron Man, Hellboy and Blade, with Dark Knight being definitely # 1.

  7. okay. there's a site here- www.mejorenvo.com, where you can just view movies directly for free. i hear youtube has started this streaming thing where you can watch high definition films for something like three dollars. that is just perfect for those like me who find it hard to get away and leave baby ruprecht at home...

  8. i meant that site features movies in original version. nicholas cage has a superb voice which should not be dubbed over- like travolta, or tom cruise, and esp eddie murphy- AWFUL in spanish. with most it doesn't really matter. remember we saw rocky dennis in spanish first?

it was capitalising on the Footloose thing.
