@Helzie, I read the book, and it was a good enough read, but I hate being manipulated. It was like "i'm gonna write a book about a girl who gets murdered and talks to us from heaven and sends messages to her dad". There is no one that wouldn't find that sad. But in a kind of 'so obvious' way.
I'm in Sydney for work and saw it on the Movies on Demand list at the hotel, so decided to watch it. And @Mars, you're right it was beyond bad.
First of all, why the hell did it look like New Zealand? I think it was meant to be set in somewhere like Pennsylvania. (lost interest, can't remember). It swapped between fantasy and reality for apparently no reason. I don't understand what Peter jackson was trying to achieve here. He should stick to fantasty because this was awful. There were tele-tubbies type animation, then mountains, then snow. Wierd.
Mark Wahlberg (love him) looked embarassed to be there. And he didn't take his shirt off. Not even once. :-(
The movie wasn't sad, wasn't sentimental, wasn't thought provoking. Considering the fact that a child being taken and killed and never found is every parent's absolute worst nightmare, the movie never capitalises on this. As a viewer, I couldn't care less about this girl or her whining father. I just wanted it to end.
To quote a Placebo line: "...lying trying waste of space, my oh my". 3./10
it seemed so promising but alas, was boring as all fuck...
ReplyDeleteI tried to read this book years ago - i didn't finish it.
