Currently Showing: The Brothers Bloom

  1. I love a good con artist movie: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Jackie Brown, Catch Me If You Can, 21 to name a few.

I had wanted to see Brother Bloom in the cinema when it came out but missed it. I've had a copy for a while and decided to watch it tonight.

Ah Adrien Brody. My heart melts every time I see his face. And doesn't everyone like Mark Ruffalo?

As kids, Stephen (Ruffalo) discovers his ability to con people, writing con scenarios mainly to give his brother Bloom everything he desires. Bloom however, eventually wants an 'unwritten' life and agrees to one last con. Enter Rachel Weisz, a rich and lonely woman who dives head first into this crazy world.

I really liked this movie, it was beautiful to look at, the dialogue was clever, and the performances were good. Rachel Weisz lights up the screen, I've never seen her play a 'light' character like this. Adrien Brody is good as the brother who wants a real life - his face is designed for melancholy, and Mark Ruffalo always works, he is always good.

    I liked this a lot. 7/10
